Local shops as third places

This morning I was reading The Age and came across this fantastic article about a new exhibition going on at the Immigration Museum, called Open for (more than) Business, documenting the important role local shops play in migrant communities.

This brings back memories for me of the ritual of buying small goods from our local continental deli every Saturday morning in Adelaide.
